We anticipate pain for surgical procedures and address and administer pain medications prior to anesthesia.
We also aim to make our patients more comfortable in their everyday activities and to prolong their quality of life. Our veterinarians will work to assess and discuss pain management options with you and help you choose the best approach that fits your pet’s unique needs and lifestyle.
Some signs that your pet might be experiencing acute or chronic pain include:
- Heavy panting
- Decreased activity
- Reluctance to jump up on surfaces (cats)
- Overgrooming or licking a particular area
- Difficulty standing after lying down
While acute or urgent pain is obvious, chronic pain can be subtle, and pet owners may see it as simply “getting old” or “slowing down.” In fact, recurring or prolonged pain can be treated and sometimes even prevented when the cause is found early. A note on hospitalization: because we know that no one wants to be separated from their furry families for long, we only hospitalize patients when necessary. Our hospitalized pets receive treatments like intravenous fluids and medications that cannot be given at home. Every effort is made to ensure our patients are as comfortable as possible.
In addition to our excellent technicians and kennel staff, we have employees whose only duty is to care for our patients. They provide reiki treatments and talk to and comfort your best friend. We also feature separate dog and cat wards to help minimize stress during extended stays.
