Pet Cardiology & Ultrasound

Although found more often in older pets, heart conditions can affect pets at any age. Heart disease is usually a life-threatening health issue, but early diagnosis and appropriate therapy can extend your pet’s life. If caught soon enough, some forms of heart disease can even be cured.

It’s important that you be aware of the symptoms of heart disease, especially if your pet is a senior, a breed that is predisposed to cardiac issues, or has a congenital problem. Symptoms include:

  • Rapid breathing
  • Coughing
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy/tires easily
  • Weakness/trouble exercising

For anyone who suspects their pet might have a heart condition, Norway Veterinary Hospital is proud to be able to offer clients the services of board-certified veterinary cardiologist Dr. John MacGregor, a graduate of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He became board-certified in cardiology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2004 after completing his residency at Tufts University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. MacGregor is available for consultation and diagnostic ultrasound at our Norway office on a regular basis.

Ultrasound is a powerful diagnostic tool that creates a real-time internal image of an animal’s body, giving us essential information that cannot be seen by the naked eye. An echocardiogram, or ultrasound of the heart, provides precise information about heart valves, blood flow, chamber size, and contractions.

To schedule an appointment with Dr. MacGregor, please contact his liaison, LeeAnn, at our Norway Office: (207) 743-6384.
